The Pekin duck is the most popular commercial duck breed in the United States, after a small number were imported to Long Island from China in 1873 by James Palmer of Stonington, Connecticut. The animals and their meat are sometimes referred to as "Long Island duckling". Around 95% of duck meat consumed in the United States is Pekin duck. These ducks make ideal companions.

White Layer Ducks are pure white with orange feet and Bills, similar to the Pekin Duck. Hens are good egg layers at 250 – 300 eggs per year. Their mature body weight is approximately 4 – 4.5 lbs.

Khaki Campbell

The Khaki Campbell is a breed of domesticated duck that originated in England and is kept for its high level of egg production, hatching out approximately 325 eggs per year. Adult Campbell ducks weigh approximately 3-5 pounds. Campbells can come in three color varieties: khaki, dark and white. They are a cross between Mallard, Rouen and Runner ducks. The Khaki Campbell drake is mostly khaki colored with a darker head usually olive green lacking the white ring of its Mallard ancestors.

The Swedish Blue is known for their blue color and the white on their wings that creates a very eye appealing color contrast. They are very hardy ducks and good foragers. The males weigh up to 8 pounds and the hens will weigh up to 7 pounds. The hens lay mostly white eggs. The Swedish Blue is similar in size to the Rouen and are very hardy ducks.

Cayuga

The Cayuga breed is in the "medium class". The standard weight for adult males is 8 pounds and females 7 pounds. The Cayuga are characterized by a black bill and black plumage, which is an iridescent beetle green in the correct light. The Cayuga Duck has dark brown eyes, black shanks, and toes. Ducklings have black plumage. It is also well liked by many as a great yard pet as they tend to stay close to home.

Golden 300 Hybrid

The Golden 300 Hybrid can be sexed at any age by its color as the males are shades of black and the females are shades of brown. As adults the females range in color from a very light brown to a very dark brown, often with areas of white on them. Males can appear much like a Rouen, or a dull looking Cayuga or with white and dark markings. The hens will lay approximately 290 large eggs per year. They have a higher fertility rate and are calmer than the Khaki Campbell.

The mallard is a medium-sized waterfowl species although is often slightly heavier than most other dabbling ducks. It is 20–26 in long (of which the body makes up around two-thirds), has a wingspan of 32–39 in, and weighs 1.6–3.5 lb. They are a good forager.

Welsh Harlequin

The Welsh harlequin is a light-weight duck breed known for its vivid plumage and egg laying ability. They weigh 4.5 to 5.5 pounds. Females have a black bill and brown legs and feet, and their plumage is similar to a mallard but heavily frosted with white. Drakes are also similar to a heavily frosted Mallard with a yellow/green bill and orange legs and feet. They have become a popular backyard pet in recent years due to the bird's calm demeanor and high egg production.
